This most-wanted survey is specific to 160m. The data were solicited on the Topband reflector and by The Daily DX during the summer of 2011 and gathered by questionnaires submitted by topband enthusiasts. Each participant defined "needed" for himself.

The 257 responses were nearly all from Europe and North America. We apparently did not adequately inform JA topbanders, whose participation was less than expected; the number of participants from Oceania, Africa and Asia (outside JA) was statistically insignificant.

The data are presented in summary form. The raw data are available as an .xlsx file upon request.

Other approaches to assessing topband needs are possible. For example, Clublog analyzes submitted logs (http://www.clublog.org/mostwanted.php). The DX Magazine lowband survey has to date lumped several low bands together as part of its annual survey; we felt this was not enough for assessing topband needs.

One caveat: the data were solicited before the addition of South Sudan to the DXCC list; hence, South Sudan is not included in the survey.
